What It Takes to Prepare for a STAND Production

At STAND Performing Arts, our productions are more than just shows—they’re experiences designed to inspire, challenge, and empower performers and audiences alike. But what does it really take to bring a STAND production to life? From script selection to the final bow, here’s an inside look at the hard work, dedication, and faith that fuel every performance.

1. Selecting the Show

It all starts with choosing the right production. Whether it’s an original script or a licensed musical, every show is carefully selected to align with STAND’s mission: to tell powerful stories that uplift and challenge both the cast and the audience. Our leadership team prays over each decision, ensuring that every production has a message worth sharing.

2. Auditions & Casting

Auditions are where the magic begins! Students come in ready to showcase their talents in singing, acting, and dance. Our directors look beyond raw talent, seeking performers who are passionate, willing to learn, and eager to grow in their gifts. Casting is a thoughtful process that ensures every role is filled with someone who will bring authenticity and energy to the stage.

3. Rehearsals: Training, Teamwork, and Tenacity

Once the cast is set, rehearsals kick into high gear. This is where commitment is tested and skills are sharpened.

  • Blocking & Choreography: The cast learns movement and staging to bring scenes to life. Our choreographers create dynamic dance numbers that fit the story’s style and energy.

  • Vocal Training & Music Rehearsals: Our music directors help students master harmonies, breath control, and vocal projection.

  • Acting Workshops: Through character development exercises and scene work, actors learn how to bring depth and emotion to their performances.

  • Spiritual Growth: At STAND, our productions aren’t just about performance—they’re about purpose. Cast members are encouraged to connect with the heart of the story and reflect on how it relates to their own faith journey.

4. Behind-the-Scenes Magic

A production isn’t just about what happens on stage! Our tech crew and creative team work tirelessly to build sets, design costumes, create lighting effects, and ensure the show runs smoothly. Every detail, from the backdrop to the sound cues, plays a role in creating an unforgettable experience.

5. Dress Rehearsals & Final Prep

As opening night approaches, dress rehearsals bring all the elements together. Costumes, props, lighting, and sound are tested to make sure everything is seamless. This is also when performers push through last-minute nerves and gain confidence in their preparation.

6. Showtime!

After months of dedication, it’s finally time to take the stage! The energy backstage is electric as the cast and crew pray together, hype each other up, and step into their roles. From the opening number to the final bow, every performance is an opportunity to inspire, impact, and glorify God through the arts.

7. The Lasting Impact

When the curtains close, the work isn’t over. A STAND production is about more than applause—it’s about transformation. Performers leave with stronger skills, deeper friendships, and a greater understanding of their purpose in the arts. And for our audience, the hope is that they leave not just entertained, but encouraged and uplifted.

Bringing a STAND production to life takes passion, perseverance, and faith. It’s a journey of hard work, creative expression, and spiritual growth. And in the end, it’s all worth it—for the moments that move hearts, the lessons that shape lives, and the stories that point people to something greater.
